TECHNICAL BASICS:
Because our premium chat service offers very high speed video, you need a fast computer and fast internet connection. The minimum system requirements are:
- A PC with a Pentium III or IV processor, Windows 2000, XP or Vista, speakers or headphones.(Macs not supported)
- A fast video card such as those from ATI or NVIDIA are best.
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or 7 only
(Get IE 7.0).
- Windows Media Player 9, 10 or 11
- High-Speed DSL, Cable or Broadband connection. NO DIALUP! DSL still slow?
Test your speed at DSL Reports)
- A WIRED connection. Wireless connections are not supported.
- The latest version of Java Virtual Machine.
Get the latest version.
- Cookies must be enabled
- NO PROXY SERVERS
Most Common General Issues :
- No Validation E-Mail: Depending on your ISP's e-mail host, the validation email our system sends you may be directed to a "Bulk" or "Junk" or some such folder. Check that this isn't the case.
- Still No Validation E-Mail: If you are currently using AOL to receive your E-mails, please note that in some areas AOL mail servers simply won't deliver e-mails their filters consider "dangerous" or "immoral". If you have not received the validation E-Mail - or any response from us after you attempt to contact us by E-Mail - register a free e-mail account with Yahoo, or Hotmail, or some other free account which will allow you to monitor your own mail.
- Validation Link Doesn't Work: Your E-Mail program may not allow active links when you view mail, or, if the link is "wrapped" or broken into more than one line, use your mouse to highlight the line itself (left-click and hold as you drag it over the code) then right-click to "copy" the highlighted area. You can then right-click and "paste" this into the address bar of your browser and push "Enter" to be taken to our welcome page.
- Hairy Breasts: You are at the wrong site. Please refer to your favorite search engine to find what you like.
- Invalid E-Mail at Registration: If you didn't receive a validation email the first time you tried, and you're trying again with the same e-mail address, it won't work - refer to the entry above to solve that issue. You can also create and use another free e-mail address if you want to register immediately, or
to let us know your preferred username and e-mail address.
- Change The E-Mail Address You Registered With: You can click on this link to change your E-Mail address immediately. Change My Email Address
Looping "Connecting" video in free chat:
The video that you see on the left hand side is only a commercial that is repeating, or "looping".
- Solution 1: Your connection is SLOW. You must have a high speed DSL/Broadband connection that is at least 200Kb/s for some streams, and 400Kb/s for our Hi-Def feeds. If the live video is breaking up and being replaced with video clips, your connection speed may not be fast enough. Test it by going to DSL Reports, or by any number of other online speed-test services.
If your speed is not high enough, please contact your Internet Service Provider to ask them about a speed upgrade for your connection.
- Solution 2: The performer's connection is too slow. Try chatting with another performer.
- Solution 3: You may have recently installed another player, or another program has changed the file associations in Windows Media Player. In order for CamChatIsland.com to display correctly on your screen, Windows Media player MUST be assoicated with .ASF and .WMV file formats.
In Windows, click on START / PROGRAMS / WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER. Then click on TOOLS / OPTIONS / FILE TYPES and make sure that Windows Media File (.asf), Windows Media Audio file (.wma) and Windows Media Video file (.wmv) are all selected. It should look something like this:

- Solution 4: Your Windows Media player has been corrupted, or the codec has been corrupted. The commercials are in .ASF format, and the live video is in .WMV format. If your computer plays the commercials only and not the live video, it is because WMV support in the player has been lost or corrupted. Try re-installing Windows Media Player by downloading the latest version from Microsoft.
- In some circumstances... CamChatIsland.com communicates status messages via port 554. Your ISP may be blocking your access to this port. Contact your ISP to verify this. This is very unlikely, but we have seen this happen in the past.
- IF YOU ARE USING A PROXY SERVER you will not be able to see our live video.
- CamChatIsland.com now authenticates video stream delivery by binding the USERNAME to the IP ADDRESS. Proxy Servers prevent this from happening, so no video can be delivered to your computer.
*** NEW *** Some Internet Service Providers such as RIPE now employ "transparent proxying" which is meant to speed up connections by caching data and silently routing your connection through a proxy. For security reasons, We will NOT authorize your connection to our video servers if you are being routed through a proxy server. Contact your ISP and ask them if they follow this practice. If so, demand a straight connection to the Intneret, or find a better ISP.
Fortunately, most small and large-size ISP's in Canada and the United states (including Bell, Worldcom, BCE, MCI, Verizon, Telus, Rogers, Comcast, AT&T and hundreds of others) do NOT use proxy servers.

TO DETECT IF YOU OR YOUR ISP IS USING A PROXY SERVER, PLEASE FOLLOW THIS LINK. - Firefox Browser Support:
If you are using the Firefox Browser you must have the correct Active X control for embedding Windows Media Player. You can download and install the Active-X control by doing the following:

- Invalid Use Error:
CamChatIsland.com passes data between pages using HTTP_HOST and HTTP_REFERER. If you are using security programs such as Norton or Zone Alarm, you must make a minor change to these programs in order to use CamChatIsland.com. They are:
- ZONE ALARM USERS:
In Zone Alarm, please do the following:
- Select "Privacy"->"3rd Party Cookies"
- Uncheck "Remove Private Header Info"
- Click on Apply

- NORTON SECURITY PERSONAL FIREWALL:
In Norton Security Personal Firewall, please do the following:
- On the left side of the NIS window, click "Privacy Control".
- Click the "Settings For" arrow & select the account you want to change. (If needed)
- Click "Custom Level".
- In the "Customize Privacy Settings" dialog box, uncheck "Enable Browser Privacy"
CamChatIsland.com uses absolutely no spyware, malicous code or tracking cookies of any kind on your computer. The changes above are safe and do not compromise the security of your computer in any way.
Video Problems
No Video whatsoever:
The Chat window appears but no video whatsoever appears beside it. Several things can cause this including:
- Windows 2000 (not XP) users with Dual Monitors Only: Right click on your desktop, click on PROPERTIES / SETTINGS and change your DEFAULT PRIMARY MONITOR to your other monitor, and then try chatting again.
- You are not using Microsoft Internet Explorer. Please switch to Internet Explorer. We do not support any other browsers.
- You do not have Windows Media Player 9, 10 or 11 installed on your PC. Download the latest Windows Media Player.
- You do not have Java installed on your computer. Go to Java.com to download it.
- You have Java but a security program such as Norton Internet Suite is not allowing it to run. Check your security settings.
CHAT Problems:
Problem: I see no video or chat, or I see video, but the chat room has a RED X where the chat should be.
- Solution 1: You either do not have Java installed on your computer, or the Java version you have is outdated. Go to Java.com to download the latest version of Java.
- Solution 2: You already have Java, but your security settings are preventing your machine from running it. In EXPLORER, click on TOOLS / INTERNET OPTIONS / SECURITY / CUSTOM LEVEL. At Reset custom settings choose MEDIUM and then RESET.
- Solution 3: You have Norton Internet Suite installed on your computer. Go to the Norton Internet Suite's control settings and Enable/Allow Java to run on your computer.
- You cannot type to the performer: Some performers may not be allowing "visitors" to communicate with them until that visitor has used his or her credit card to make a purchase, thus demonstrating that s/he is "serious". You can select other performers who don't have this option enabled, but we must respect the performers who want to filter out the "beggars" and "freeloaders".
Audio Problems:
Problem: I hear no sound whatsoever when I enter a chat room.
- Solution 1: Your speakers are off, disconnected, or turned down too low. Make sure your speakers are connected, and double-click on the yellow speaker icon near your clock in the task bar. Turn up the voume, and make sure that WAV sound is enabled and turned up.
- Solution 2: The chat model you want to talk to does not have a microphone or does not want to talk. Try chatting with another model.
